Discrimination, terrible service and pests in the kitchen - what more could you ask for?!

    PROBLEMS:
    - Discriminatory treatment by staff (if you don't fit a certain profile, you won't receive courteous and prompt service)
    - Horrible service by waitstaff (it took us 30-40 minutes to have water brought out!)
    - Terrible cocktails (loaded to the point where rubbing alcohol would be a smoother beverage choice)
    - Pests in kitchen (To-go box accompanied by ants)
    - Aggressive owner (Instead of thanking his patrons for their feedback, the owner will get extremely defensive and start a shouting match in the middle of his restaurant. Delaney's form of dinner entertainment I suppose.)

We walked in and were greeted by James (owner) who at first glance seemed to be a nice man. The table we were given was in a horrible nook right next to the kitchen door. We could hear everything going on in the kitchen and I kept getting bumped into by the waitstaff running around. To top things off, my chair was creaky and loose. I'm genuinely surprised it didn't shatter and drop my behind straight to the floor.

Our waitress later appeared (can't recall her name, she was an older black-haired Caucasian lady). She was friendly, especially when we mentioned it was my birthday. We politely asked for water and two cocktails to start things off. She said the cocktails would likely take a little longer because they were serving a big party in the banquet room. We didn't get our first glass until 30 minutes after we asked for it. The cocktails arrived 10-15 minutes AFTER that, so approximately 45 minutes after we were sat.

We got our food orders in as soon as we could, anticipating a long wait. After some time, I flagged the waitress over and asked about our appetizer and dinner bread. She apologized for the delay (first of many throughout the night) and brought out some bread. Shortly after she brought out our salads as well. I began wondering why they were taking longer to serve us. At first, I figured it was the staff just being that busy with that large party. But then it wouldn't make sense that the staff was consistently checking-in on everyone else while we waited longer and longer for service. I later surmised that my choice of wardrobe (maybe my ethnicity to some degree as well, seeing as how we were the only Hispanics in the restaurant) had inadvertently put us in that lower customer service tier as opposed to everyone else there. I was wearing a Ducks pullover and ballcap to support the boys as they played their Elite 8 game that day. Show up in anything less than khakis, a collared shirt and tie and be prepared for 2nd class service.

By the time we received our food, I was so over the place and just wanted to take it to-go. The waitress gave my girlfriend her food in what looked like a to-go cup for soup and I got my food in a to-go box with an ant on it. I pointed out the ant to the waitress and she said "oh my god I'm so sorry", quickly killed the ant with her finger and left embarrassed to get our check. I had had enough and decided to call the manager over.

I told James (owner) about the ant, he said "it's impossible we don't have ants". I asked him why I'd lie about such a thing, that he could ask the waitress to verify. He said, "I didn't say you were lying, we just don't have ants". How do you concur that the complaint is valid then still turn a blind eye to your pest problem? I don't know but that defensive attitude persisted throughout our conversation. I then mentioned the long delays and subpar service, he countered condescendingly with "Oh now it's the service that's a problem? You know I'm tired of people like you who complain about nothing just to get free food". I was appalled. When he was done yelling, he left. He came back 10 minutes later with a gift card and an apology. He told me he had talked to the waitress and that she substantiated everything. Had he done this BEFORE jumping down my throat we could have avoided an unnecessary scene and unpleasantries. I appreciated the apology, but the damage had been done.

Sunday morning breakfast is a great deal here. Unlimited bacon is delicious, though it depends on who is cooking it; sometimes it gets a bit floppy.
